Заголовок сообщения: Setting up a HAT?
СообщениеДобавлено: 10 авг 2004, 11:02

Hi All,
Its been a while since I last played ROM2, but I miss it and wanted to jump back in to the game. I had stored my Rom2 HAT and Server folders and files into a zip file a long time back. Now, I just unzipped it and changed the necessary info in the cfg files. When I got to start the server I get an error: Error initializing the TCP/IP connection. Does anyone know what causes this? I am running Win XP Pro. If I can get this HAT back up and running, I'm looking to design a webpage and do the whole 9 yards with regards to supporting and running the Hat, and Website. Anyone who can help please email me at johndraugr@soznet.net

Thanks
John

I must admit that I haven't really been following the discussion of why sometimes hats just don't work for a reason but I believe it had something to do with you running the server on the same ip as the hat.

I have no idea what your problem is, but I'd try the following:

1) Ensure you're using the correct IP address for everything.
2) Are you on a network? RoM2 Hats are known to have problems when people are hosting from a computer connected to a network.
3) Make sure you have all the settings right. You may want to download or install everything once again, just to be sure everything is okay.

Its early in the morning, so I cannot think of anything else that might be wrong right now.

Заголовок сообщения: Usual reasons for a TCP/IP error

as far as I remember are two possibles:

1. If you get that error while at least one server is already running and you are trying to start another one, it can happen if you "fat-fingered" the .cfg file and the servers are trying to share the same port number(s). Double check the server config files and MAKE SURE they all have different port numbers or you will have a conflict.

OR

2. It also happens frequently if you are trying to run the hat from behind a firewall. If this is the case, you will probably have to turn off the firewall (unless you are REALLY good at manipulating the firewall settings) in order to run the servers.

When in doubt, if you are having troubles with the game while running winXP, you can also try messing with the OS compatibility setting for the rom2server.exe file. This MAY fix your problems.....may not. Old programs sometimes don't play nice with the other programs in the newer sand boxes.

I would also be happy to offer my assistance/help in setting your hat up if you need/want my help. Having an autosignup page, a web page that displays the hat rules, and having all the latest game patches to minimize on the game cheating will make your HAT run with many fewer headaches (assuming you intend to have restrictive rules on your hat). For instance, Defiant and I co-authored THE DEFINITIVE patch against what is commonly referred to as the GM HACK (where you can activate the single player cheat mode while playing on someone's HAT server....nasty indeed). Our patch COMPLETELY disables this so NO ONE can use this hack. OR, we would gladly teach you how to make your own patch so that you can keep the cheat codes in your HAT but so that ONLY YOU have access to to these cheat codes (it's kinda a nice way to admin or playtest the hat from inside the game rather than just from the server screens). I'm Not sure how long ago you stopped playing, so I don't know how many of the common game cheats you're familiar with....but there are quite a few item duping methods around these days. Most of these can be prevented quite easily with just a minimal bit of preparation before you start your HAT. So if you don't want people to be able to easily dupe stuff, you are gonna want to protect your HAT from this.

Good luck. Hope to see your hat up in the near future. Always willing to help in any way I can....
