I wrote this a long time ago, but it might help you out:

I always want to be helpful, and since everyone seems to be having a problem with ROM2 and xp, here is how to make it compatible:
First of all, put your Rage of Mages 2 cd into your CD-ROM drive. Next, if the ROM2 screen comes up (and it is likely that it will), just close it. Now, go into windows Explorer. Scroll down to your CD-ROM drive and double click it. It should now display the ROM2 files. Click on the top file, hold shift, and click on the bottom file. All of the files should now be highlighted in blue. Now, copy them (you can copy them by pressing control-c, by going into edit on the bar on the top and clicking copy, or if you right-click it there should be a copy option), and go back into the C drive (or whatever your main drive may be). Create a new folder by right-clicking and clicking New then clicking Folder, or by going to the menu bar at the top and clicking File--New--Folder. Name this folder Rage of Mages 2 (if you, for some reason, mess up and need to rename the folder, you can do so by double-clicking on its text, or by right-clicking it and clicking rename). Now double click the Rage of Mages 2 folder (unless you are already in it). You should know be seeing the contents of the Rage of Mages 2 folder which is nothing. Now, right-click anywhere in the folder and click paste, or hit control-v, or go to edit in the menu bar and click paste. You should now have all of the ROM2 files in the ROM2 folder. Double click the ROM2.exe file to see if this worked.
If this hasn't worked:
If all of this hasn't worked, DON'T DELETE IT. Instead, install the ROM2 game through the cd. Although it previously didn't work, if you followed the above steps, it should work now. After all of this, go to the Monolith's Rage of Mages 2 website at
http://www.lith.com/sites/rom2/ From there, download the Multiplayer patch (you may have to go to the Multiplayer section on the website). Make SURE to download and unzip the files into the Rage of Mages 2 folder, because otherwise, it would be useless.
And there you go, a complete idiot's guide to loading and installing ROM2 on your computer if you have XP.
P. S. - If you don't have Windows XP, these methods should still work.
Thanks for your time,
-DarkKnight

Also, many people have slight problems that involve compatability issues. To resolve these, simply right-click your rom2.exe file and click on properties. Proceed to click on the Compatability tab. Click the box next to "Run this program in compatability mode for:" so that a checkmark appears. On the drop-down menu, select Windows 98 / Windows Me. Click apply, then OK, and everything should work.
